Behind the lens

5.23.2016

Hello! I'm Rosi (pronounced "Rosie")... yes the "e" is left off intentionally because that's how it's spelled in Spanish. To those of you who have been spelling it Rosie or Rosy or Rosey over the years, I know you'll keep doing it... it's OK, I still like you.  And to one of my brothers who insists on calling me Rose (or RRRRosana, rolling the R extra hard when he really wants to get my attention) I still love you... muah!

A little bit about me: I now live in Northern Virginia, but I will ALWAYS be a New Yorker (by way of the Dominican Republic), so yes I say "kwuafee" and "dwuog", etc, etc, etc.  I have a wonderful husband, two beautiful children, a handsome stepson and two munchkin grand-babies. You read it right, I’m a nana! But before you start trying to calculate my age or my children's ages, I'll help you out... I'm a "step-grandmother" ha!

I've always been in front of the camera ready to strike a pose, but there was always something about being the picture taker that has aroused my interest… maybe because it’s in my GENES!  My father, a professional photographer for 60+ years (wow!), would take me with him on photo shoots to be his "little helper".  Now 30 years later, I decided to follow in his footsteps by getting behind the lens myself.

My passion for capturing memories inspired me to make photography more than just a hobby. I'm sure my family appreciates me not using them as guinea pigs anymore... well at least not as much :)

Of course photography is one of my favorite things ever, but here are a few things some people don't know that I actually might KILL for:

So at one point I had close to 200 pairs of shoes, but one day I mustered up the courage to do a massive purge.  Now I'm down to about 85 or so. Don't worry, the ones that didn't make the cut found suitable new homes.

P.S. remind me to show you the spinning shoe rack one of my brothers built for me... TO. DIE. FOR.!!

Yeah, uhmm... is it bad that I once wallpapered someone's office using the wrappers of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups that I've eaten over the span of a year? Don't ask me why I saved those wrappers [I know I have other issues].  It's probably safe to say it's an addiction at this point and I'm loving every last scrumptious, chocolatey, peanut buttery bite!

My husband always says I get hooked on a certain food or snack, until something else comes along. I disagree. I used to be hooked on the Beach Bum from Tropical Smoothie Cafe and then I found this green gem. It's still a smoothie, so his theory is wrong! I think I have Green Machine running through my veins now.

When my kids were little, I would read to them the popular children's books that I enjoyed when I was little.  But the stories they LOVED the most were the ones I wrote just for them. I'm having flashbacks as I write this ...ahhh {The Adventures of Brittany & Jason}!

Over the years I've written poems for my husband, stories for myself and the occasional real-life short story re-cap for my sisters. I could hear my sister-in-law now "when are you writing the book?!?!"

No, I've never been, but it IS on my bucket list and I already know it's one of my favorite things. I love all things romantic, all things fashionable, all things artistic and all things.....well, Parisian!

Paris, je vais vous recontrer un jour.

So there you go, now that you know a little bit about me, I'd love to get to know you and capture the essence of you through my lens.  I'm sure you'll love our experience together as much as I do!

xoxo,

Rosi
